Another new poll: Presidential race tied, Heller up 5
The presidential race is tied in Nevada and Sen. Dean Heller is up 5 in the Senate race, according to a well-known GOP pollster, contradicting results of the survey I posted a short time ago. Glen Bolger has been one of the more reliably accurate pollsters here, so his numbers, outlined in two documents below, should not be discounted.
New poll: Obama up 9, Berkley up 4 in Nevada
President Obama is stretching his lead to 9 percentage points in Nevada and Rep. Shelley Berkley is up 4 over Sen. Dean Heller in a new Public Policy Polling survey taken for the League of Conservation Voters. The survey, which you can see below and was taken last week of 501 likley voters, shows Obama up 52-43 and Berkley up 48-44. Those numbers are even greater for the president than other public polls and Berkley's lead will come as a surprise considering other results.
Romney raised $2 million at Las Vegas event
Three sources have now confirmed that Mitt Romney raised $2 million at his Red Rock Resort fundraiser Friday in Las Vegas. The event, which included $2,500 to $25,000 donor levels, was the second $2 million payday for Romney in Vegas. The first was at Donald Trump's place in May. So even if Romney loses the state, it's been good to him -- add the $4 million to whatever Sheldon Adelson has donated under cover of a c4.
OFA political director: President Obama coming to Nevada this weekend
Maybe he needs to blow some cash in Vegas and get some R & R before the big Denver debate a week from Wednesday. Whatever the reason, President Obama is coming to Las Vegas on Sunday, according to an email from Obama For America's Nevada political director, Mariela Hernandez:
Breaking: Democrats now have 65,000-voter lead over GOP; new TV buys for Patriot Majority, others
The Democrats have extended their registration lead to about 65,000 voters over the Republicans, continuing an inexorable stretching of a lead that could make the difference in November in critical races.
The curtain rises on the Nevada labor machine
There have been a lot of pieces written recently about the disconnect between Nevada’s terrible economy and President Obama’s lead in the polls here.
Temple forum roundup: Oceguera can't find any presidential misstep, Heck breaks with Romney and Berkley won't answer debt question
It went more than two and a half hours, with many candidates for legislative offices dodging basic questions and Clark County Commissioner Steve Sisolak making people wonder why Barry Herr is running against him (Herr all but endorsed the incumbent). But when the Midbar Kodesh Temple candidates night got to the federal races, there was real news. Well, sort of. A quick roundup:
L.A. Times scribe comes to Reno to figure out how Obama is doing well in Nevada despite economy
The L.A. Times' Mark Z. Barabak, who may know as much about this state as any national reporter, sojourned in Reno recently and came away with some thoughts about the paradox of the depressed economy and the depressed Mitt Romney vote:
Judge eviscerates Dotty's attempt to undo Big Gaming's victory
In a decision that came down Friday, and was first reported by Vegas, Inc's Steve Green, a judge shredded a case brought by those slot parlors that have fought against a Clark County ordinance. Judge Kent Dawson thoroughly rejected the various claims made by Dotty's, inlcuding due process and equal protection. If you are interested in this ongoing political and legal saga, I have posted the decision here.
My column: The first Heller-Berkley debate
Moderator: “Good evening and welcome to the first U.S. Senate debate between Senator Dean Heller and Congresswoman Shelley Berkley.” Man shouts from audience: “Go get him, Shelley! I want him gone.” Moderator: “Senator Reid, you really must try to control yourself. My first question goes to the congresswoman: Senator Heller says you are the most unethical and corrupt person he has ever met. Your reaction?”
