New poll shows Obama leads in Nevada by 7
President Obama leads Mitt Romney by 7 percentage points in Nevada, according to a new survey by Democratic pollster Lisa Grove taken this week. The poll, for Project New America, found Obama up 50-43, a few points larger than today's Rasmussen Reports poll (with a bizarre sample) that showed 50-47, Obama.
It's official: Wilhelm to step down, Taylor to take over (if elected) of Culinary parent
I first Tweeted about it this morning after reading a report from a New Haven daily (Unite Here boss John Wilhelm is a Yalie). But, apparently after getting inquiries, the union made it official today in a news release. Sounds as if Taylor, the longtime local leader, will live here and not move back East: UNITE HERE Union Leadership Transition John Wilhelm, President of UNITE HERE Union for the last 15 years, is planning to step down at the end of November this year.
Ad watch: The endgame -- and the money -- cometh
UPDATE: AFSCME just came in with a six-figure buy in Reno for the duration to help Rep. Shelley Berkley. Also, big uptick in Spanish-TV buys, too, with ads starting this week from People for the American Way (Dem), the Hispanic Leadership Fund (GOP) and Unite Here (Culinary parent with a brutal hit on Mitt Romney.) Catching up on some new buys in the public file (I extrapolated from what I saw): Crossroads: Last week, the Rovian folks plunked down mid- to high six figures for a statewide buy from 10/23-10/29.
Tark pollster: We're up double digits and race is "becoming a more likely win"
In a polling memo surely designed to rev up the base and maybe raise a little money, Danny Tarkanian's pollsters expressed confidence this week in a missive headlined, "Tarkanian momentum grows."
FEC audit finds Angle failed to properly report $250,000 in contributions, $2 million in debt
The Federal Election Commission will consider the audit findings on Thursday that show irregularities with 2010 U.S. Senate candidate Sharron Angle's campaign disclosures. Highlights (full report linked here) of audit of "Friends of Sharron Angle" below:
Republicans raise specter of dishonest election; Democrats prepare for voter suppression
If the presidential and/or U.S. Senate race are close this year, welcome to my nightmare. Republicans, as they did in 2010, already are laying the predicate for challenging voters, raising the specter of all of those new Democratic registrations not being kosher. And Democrats, fearing attempts to suppress their vote, are moving to counter these efforts.
Heck, Horsford win poll question
More than 400 people responded to the site question: "Who will win the competitive congressional contests?" Results: Joe Heck--34 percent John Oceguera--26 percent Steven Horsford -- 21 percent Danny Tarkanian -- 18 percent New, mischievous question is up!
Tark: "Harry Reid has reached a new low"
So along with Sen. Dean Heller, Danny Tarkanian becomes the second Republican to say he has two opponents. To wit: Dear Harry Reid has reached a new low. Recent polls show my opponent, Steven Horsford down 13 points. Senate Majority leader Harry Reid is attempting to leverage Nevada voters to elect an individual he has as dubbed his heir in Washington.
Last day to register to vote in Nevada: Dems boost lead to huge Clark advantage, deadlock in Washoe
Registrations still are pouring into Clark County -- the Democratic lead is more than 127,000 and more than you see below -- so these numbers are not quite final. But almost, via SOS: Active Voters BY COUNTY AND PARTY County Name
"Veterans group" links up with Americans for Prosperity
Veterans in Politics International's Steve Sanson sent out an email Monday shilling for Amercians for Prosperity, the Koch Brothers-funded conservative organization that has been very active this cycle in Nevada.
