Titus weighs in on patient-dumping scandal

With daily releases from state Democrats pounding Gov. Brian Sandoval on the patient-dumping story, Democratic Rep. Dina Titus has penned a fairly pointless and obviously political letter to the state:

Mr. Michael J. Willden

Director

Nevada Department of Health and Human Services

4126 Technology Way, Room 100

Carson City, Nevada 89706

Dear Director Willden:

Recent news reports have described allegations that, in at least one instance, a patient at the Rawson-Neal Psychiatric Hospital in Las Vegas was improperly discharged and sent across state lines without adequate plans for the patient’s care.

As you know, a survey completed by your department found serious deficiencies relating to the discharge planning policies at Rawson-Neal.  The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid have required Southern Nevada Adult Mental Health Services to submit evidence that Rawson-Neal is taking immediate corrective action to address these concerns or risk termination of the facility’s Medicare provider agreement.

I understand that the state has investigated the allegations and taken disciplinary actions.  I respectfully request that Nevada DHHS keep me fully informed about the steps that Rawson-Neal is taking to address these serious concerns.  It is critical that Nevada provide mentally ill patients with proper and necessary care.

I wonder why it was released to the media, too? I can't figure that out.
