R&R Partners and Barrick Gold, two major players in Nevada politics, are holding a unique fundraiser a week from Thursday -- a joint event for a Democratic assemblywoman guaranteed victory and a GOP state senator not on the ballot.
Assemblywoman Debbie Smith and state Sen. Ben Kieckhefer are sure to be key players in their respective caucuses, and these two lobbying powerhouses always have influence in both houses and in both parties. But you almost never see a fundraiser for two lawmakers of the same party, as the invite indicates:
"Next Thursday, Oct. 4, we will be hosting a unique, education-themed, bipartisan fundraiser for two of northern Nevada’s most pragmatic leaders. Assemblywoman Debbie Smith and Senator Ben Kieckhefer have earned the reputation of being able to work with their colleagues, no matter political affiliation, and constituents to improve their community and better Nevada. Specifically, as education is such an important topic in our state, these two legislators have become champions for the school district and the higher education system.
This very special, invite-only dinner is $500 a plate and will be held at Louis Basque Corner from 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 4. Dinner will be served at 6 p.m."
Great idea, and I bet Smith and Kieckhefer are thrilled.
I wonder if the teachers union is invited.
