Trouble in business paradise?
The Las Vegas Metro Chamber, which recently saw the departure of its veteran Carson City lobbyist Sam McMullen, now has lost its government affairs vice president.
Chamber Chairwoman Kristin McMillan sent an email this morning announcing that McAnallen, who has been in the job for three years, is leaving for the city. McAnallen replaces John Lopez, the ex-John Ensign aide who was at the city for a cup of coffee before going to Cox Communications.
The chamber already had posted McMullen's job. Now it has to do another one.
I can't help but chuckle at McAnallen going to the city after the chamber has made such a big deal over the years about local government salaries. Remember this study?
The city announced the news Friday morning, which surprised me because parts are closed on Fridays. And this is the beginning of a holiday weekend!
Another good deal for McAnallen now: The four-day work week!
McMillan's email is below.
----
Dear Trustees and Government Affairs Committee Members:
I want to let you know that Brian McAnallen, Vice President of Government Affairs, has accepted a position as the Government Affairs Manager for the City of Las Vegas. Brian's last day at the Metro Chamber will be Friday, September 12, 2014.
I am sure all of you recognize the tremendous talent and drive that Brian has brought to the Chamber's Government Affairs organization and the Metro Chamber itself, and we appreciate all of his efforts and success. We wish Brian the best of luck in his future endeavors at the City of Las Vegas, and we know he will continue to maintain a strong working relationship between the City and the Metro Chamber.
I assure you that the Metro Chamber, through its experienced Government Affairs team and established partnerships, will continue to be the leading voice of business, representing the interests of our members and our community at all levels of government – federal, state and local. We are continuing to make progress on the execution of strategic plans to elevate our government affairs and advocacy efforts, as presented to you earlier this year. We have been re-launching and expanding the public policy committees and we are currently in the midst of a RFP process for government affairs consulting and lobbying services on 2015 state legislative matters and other government issues.
In addition to having a full-time presence in Carson City during the 2015 Legislature, and at the local government level, Congressman Jon Porter and his Porter Gordon Silver team will continue to represent the Metro Chamber on federal government affairs matters.
Please let me know if you have any questions or need additional information.
Regards,
Kristin McMillan
