Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid said Thursday that he has yet to make up his mind on the Iran deal, but indicated he will announce his decision when he returns to DC next month. Reid, in a gaggle with reporters after a speech to the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce, seemed to say he was going to talk to longtime supporters in rthe Jewish community before delcaring his position. Reid also appeared to be saying that he owed them an audience before announcing his stance, which I took as a "I'm...
Speaker John Hambrick sent this to his caucus tonight:   I wanted to inform you that electric car manufacturer Faraday is considering locating a manufacturing facility in Southern Nevada. This has the potential to create thousands of jobs and help us to further diversify Nevada's economy.         It is my understanding that part of the deal may require us to consider legislation and as such the Governor to call a brief special session. Majority Leader Anderson and I will work to keep you all...
I'm verklempt.   Urgent Message from Donald J. Trump Dear Friend, Are you ready to Make America Great Again? Since I announced my candidacy for the Republican nomination for president I have soared to first place in the polls, defying the mainstream media and the GOP establishment. I am rising in the polls because of you – and the fact that I am offering the American people an alternative to the inept career politicians who talk big but never produce results. I have a long track record of...
It's the same old, same old of Nevada GOP fringe types who generally fail but talk big: failed candidate Bunces, Michele Fiore pal Dan Muth. You know who they are. They are listed below, with the referendum and the We Decide Coalition. I get a kick out of these folks, who claim to revere the Constitution, circumventing the notion of a republic when it suits them. Buckle up. 2015 08 10.We Decide Coalition Referendum Petition by Jon Ralston 2015 08 10.We Decide Coalition Referendum Petition -...
In a piece that posted today, the respected Columbia Journalism Review argued, according to the headline: "Why political journalists shouldn’t report on internal polling." This is obviously wrong. But the piece, written by freelancer Steve Friess, makes some excellent points without exactly reaching the conclusion contained in the headline. With renewed discussion over polling methods with the release of a NBC News ponline poll on the presidential race (I am really not sure about this...
At 8:14 AM on Aug. 5, Rep. Cresent Hardy -- or at least his Twitter feed operator -- could not contain himself: #BREAKING: Under pressure from Hardy, long-delayed Pahrump @DeptVetAffairs Clinic back on track: https://t.co/0OIJjQ9fSW @reviewjournal — Rep. Cresent Hardy (@RepHardy) August 5, 2015 That third-person celebratory reference of "BREAKING" news (not sure I have ever seen anyone outside of a journalist use "breaking" on a tweet) linked to a crowing release that also leveled a broadside...
Welcome to the Weekly Report. This week: 1.  The telescopic look at the Assembly and Senate 2.  The presidential debate takeaways 3. Amodei’s gubernatorial trial balloons 4. Can the GOP save the Assembly? 5. Smartest/dumbest moves of the week Great stuff from my insiders, as usual. I put my pundits up against any national ones in their analyses of the debate. Check them out. On the governor’s race: It’s interesting how few take Amodei seriously, although they respect his intelligence (just not...
Assemblywoman Michele Fiore and Assemblyman Brent Jones, appearing on the radio, recently accused Gov. Brian Sandoval of "treason" and said that is why the GOP is "excommunicating him." That was a reference to the $1.4 billion tax increase, supported by 80 percent of lawmakers, inlcuding a majority of Republicans in both houses. They also accused the governor of only "sticking to his guns" for people "who write him fat checks," as Fiore put it. In addition, the Mensa duo reiterated their...
A few days after announcing 17 county chairs and a couple of weeks after a Carson City town hall, Jeb Bush returns to Nevada next Wednesday. It's will be his third visit as a candidate since May. Bush clearly knows We Matter. The details: A noon rally at the Hyatt Place near the airport in Reno. A 5:30 PM town hall at the Pearson Community Center in North Las Vegas. An appaerance on "Ralston Live," too? A host can dream....
