School began today in Reno, Superintendent Pedro Martinez is back at work, but he's not letting go of his lawsuit against his bosses for breaching his contract. Today, his lawyer filed a lengthy brief opposing the district's desire to have until mid-October to respond to his suit, saying 45 days is plenty. It's a pretty scathing document, and attached here.
The Speculation Machine is in overdrive with that land being graded in Reno, and Teslamania growing. And now, the Reno Gazette-Journal's veteran Bill O'Driscoll has raised the possibility of a special session to provide Elon Musk with enough goodies to entice him to choose Nevada over the moonbeams being offered in California, where he lives. So what's really happening here? A lot, I've discovered. My sources tell me that despite fears Musk may be using poor lil Nevada as a pawn to extract more...
With his siblings handing over ownership of the Las Vegas Sun to Brian Greenspun, the sole proprietor announced that he was dropping his lawsuit against the Las Vegas Review-Journal, which sought to end the quarter-century-old Joint Operating Agreement between the two papers. But the RJ isn't letting Greenspun off so easily -- or cheaply. In a motion filed in court, the RJ's parent, Stephens Media, chafes at Greenspun seeking "to walk away from the proceedings he improvidently started by...
Nancy Pelosi is in Vegas today.
In three weeks, Ready for Hillary will assert its presence in Nevada with two representatives from the group and Rep. Dina Titus. I bet Erin Bilbray shows up. Just a guess. The goal is to "engage women in your community during the 2014 election and beyond." Beyond, eh?
As if the opposition needed more money, the Realtors have formed a political action committee dedicated to defeating The Education Initiative, a k a the margin tax. Realtors Against Question 3, which they cleverly call RAQ3 for short (ain't that catchy?), was formed last week. So the Realtors join the gamers, miners, retailers and chamberites in raising money to fight this deadly scourge. Anyone else in?
News item: Gov. Brian Sandoval leads Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid by 53-43 in a hypothetical 2016 Senate matchup Imagine a collective Republican cry of ecstasy. Whatever sound that makes, it reverberated across the interwebs last week after I posted the first public results of the race Republicans dream will happen: The manifestly popular Sandoval vs. the serially unpopular Harry Reid. By week’s end, numerous conservative blogs had published the results, which also showed Reid with a 55...
Canadian mining giant Barrick has tapped Brian Greenspun for its board, creating yet another conflict for the Las Vegas Sun publisher who already is hopelessly compromised because of his closeness to Hillary Clinton and Harry Reid and because of his entrance into the medical marijuana business. Barrick Vice President Michael Brown, in an email gushing about the news, told folks that Greenspun is the first Nevadan ever appointed to the board, coming, coincidentally, a few months before a ballot...
