Good morning, everyone. As expected, Las Vegas made the cut as a finalist for the 2016 Republican National Convention. Indeed, there was no cut. Eight cities applied; eight cities are finalists. They are: Cleveland, Cincinnati, Columbus, Denver, Dallas, Kansas City, Las Vegas & Phoenix. I see Dallas, with its facilities, as the main competition. We would win if this were a straight-up business proposition, as one insider told me recently. But this is a political decision, so I worry. But as...

The fallout continues from that intense Sue Lowden-Mark Hutchison debate with many Oliver Twistian calls going out: “Please, sir, may we have some more?” We are trying to set up another debate next month –Lowden’s camp...
Good morning, everyone. Many of you know that I was a huge fan of “Breaking Bad,” and I have seen some comparisons of the new HBO series, “True Detective,” to the Walter White saga. I am three episodes in, and while I am not ready quite yet to put it on par, it is truly creepy, gritty and compelling. The two main characters are both fascinating, with Matthew McConaughey’s detective having the potential to reach iconic status. Can’t wait to get up to date---- Speaking of icons, Harold Ramis’...

I have been reading (actually listening to) “HRC: State Secrets and the Rebirth of Hillary Clinton,” the Jon Allen/Amie Parnes book about the former first lady, senator and secretary of state and...

I was, as is my habit, watching “The Daily Rundown” as I put together the Morning Flash and watched a very painful Chuck Todd interview with Indiana Gov. Mike Pence. When the discussion came around to...

Good morning, everyone. I believe Harry Reid is constitutionally incapable of raising a white flag. So even after Steve Sisolak’s expected decision to run for governor became clear on Monday evening, Prince Harry still was putting the best face on the vacancy at the top of the ticket in an interview with capital reporters: Reid said someone else is already lined up to run for the Democrats. But he would not name Nevada’s new challenger to Sandoval---”I’m sure that it will be a respectable...

Good morning, everyone. Happy President’s Day! (I don’t have the day off; do you?) Good to my word, I binge-watched “House of Cards” this weekend, starting with the shocking first episode all the way through the predictable, although satisfying end. The show remains magnetic, but it’s not quite as good as Season 1. Maybe it was a little bit more predictable in spots, despite being more suspenseful in others. It generally has an even more appalling view of journalism than politics, but that’s a...
