This is on the UNLV College Republicans' web site, a few weeks before Chair Cindy Lake faces a challenge from Dave McKeon. I have high hopes the Republican comedy show of the last few cycles could open a whole new chapter....     CINDY LAKE MUST RESIGN.   CALL THE CLARK COUNTY REPUBLICAN PARTY AT (702) 258-9184 AND DEMAND HER RESIGNATION TODAY! Here are five images showing Cindy Lake trashing Republicans, claiming she will not support Republican candidates, and claiming she will vote for...
Of all the 2013 Legislature’s misbegotten labors, the worst failing, the most egregious broken promise will result next week in the kickoff of one of the more expensive campaigns in Nevada history. Yes, just two weeks after Democratic leaders took the coward’s way out and didn’t address the teachers union’s margins tax while breaking a pledge to pass a broad-based one of their own, the Nevada State Education Association plans to announce its ballot campaign for 2014, I’ve confirmed. This is...
Erin Bilbray may remain as a consultant to the non-profit she founded if she runs for Congress, according to a draft FEC advisory opinion. The issue was whether Bilbray, whose father was a congressman from 1987-1999, could be a paid consultant to Emerge Nevada, an organization dedicated to electing Democratic women.  The key finding by the FEC, whose opinion is attached here, is this: As a consultant, Ms. Bilbray-Kohn’s duties will be limited to organizing Emerge Nevada’s training program,...
As expected, it came today. The veto message is attached.
Later this morning, a coalition pushing for immigration reform will release polling nmbers designed to gather more votes for the measure -- looking at you, Sen. Dean Heller. The poll was sponsored by the Alliance for Citizenship (working with the Nevada group, Progressive Leadership Alliance of Nevada), Partnership for a New American Economy, and Republicans for Immigration Reform -- two prominent Nevada Republicans, former Gov. Bob List and ex-Clark County Commissioner Bruce Woodbury are...
Tom Collins is term-limited. But he may be running for lieutneant governor, even likely after this. This went out this afternoon, with this unusual pitch: "The South Point always does it right and they haven't thrown me out yet. But there's always a first time and you'll kick yourself if you miss it.  I wish we didn't have to ask for money in politics, but any more, being in office damn near requires it. At least this way we can all have some fun at the same time." Indeed.   June 12...
In big news that will affect the 2014 political matrix, Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto says she will not run for lieutenant governor -- and sources tell me she also has decided not to challenge Gov. Brian Sandoval. "I am definitely not running for lieutenant governor," Cortez Masto told me when I asked her about what I had been told. She would not confirm (or deny) that she also has opted not to run against popular Gov. Brian Sandoval, but several sources say she has communicated her...
UPDATE: Two more Heller amendments, attached here, that his office says will "safeguard Nevada tourism":   Amendment #1234: Requires the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to submit a report on how DHS intends to implement a biometric entry/exit system for ten highest-volume airports.     Amendment #1235: Requires DHS to develop a plan to reduce wait times at airports with the highest volume of international travelers. This amendment provides resources through travel fees in the bill to...
There was some confusion, but I've confirmed from Gov. Brian Sandoval's office that he will act on all legislation by Friday. That would comport with the Constitution, which says (emphasis added): Sec: 35.  Bills to be presented to governor; approval; disapproval and reconsideration by legislature; failure of governor to return bill.  Every bill which may have passed the Legislature, shall, before it becomes a law be presented to the Governor. If he approve it, he shall sign it, but if not he...
Test your political IQ: Gov. Brian Sandoval invited the media to one of these bill signings -- which was it? A. A bill that was the most important piece of legislation to the Washoe County School District, one that would enable the County Commission, with a two-thirds vote, to raise taxes for capital projects. B.A bill that cements Sandoval as the first governor ever to put money into English Language Learner programs, money that will especially help Hispanic students in Clark County. If you...
